Description
Macodes petola is a popular jewel orchid species from Malaysia, Borneo and the Philippines. Jewel orchids are prized for their beautiful foliage. They do produce flowers, but they are not very showy. Some people even cut off the flower spikes as they distract from the leaves!
Most jewel orchid species live on the forest floor in tropical habitats. They don’t get much light and they never dry out. You can learn more about their habitat on Jay’s site.
These are ideal for terrarium culture. Jewel orchids are also popular with folks who keep tropical frogs and similar animals.
