Paphiopedilum rothschildianum flasks (‘Paph Paradise’ AM/AOS x ‘Tempranillo’ AM/AOS)

Our best two roths meet here. ‘Paph Paradise’ received an 86 point AM/AOS on its first bloom. It has very wide segments and intense color. If we take it to judging again someday it could easily be upgraded to an FCC now that the plant is mature. Crossed to ‘Tempranillo’, which had 7 flowers on its first spike when awarded. A feat no other awarded roth has matched. We think it has the potential to produce 8 flowers per spike now that it is mature.

Flasks with about 22-25 seedlings, shipped out of flask so be ready to pot them right away.

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum flasks made with our very best roth crossed to the one that set a new standard for flower count. ‘Tempranillo’ had 7 flowers on one spike when awarded an 88 point AM/AOS on its first bloom. It had a small attempted 8th bud on that spike so we think we can put 8 flowers on one now that it is mature. Maybe if we give a a rest from making pods it will find the energy to do that.

We had the good fortune of being close to the Orchid Zone when their last crosses of rothschildianum were blooming out. I visited almost weekly to secure the very best plants to use for our breeding program. The crosses we make with these plants should set a new bar for quality for this species.
