Description
Paphiopedilum purpuratum is a colorful mottled leaf species from China and Vietnam. Its distinctive flowers appear in the spring through fall. Strong plants can flower more than once per year. They come from relatively high elevation, so they prefer intermediate temperatures. They can even tolerate fairly cool temperatures into the upper 40’s F.
Like most other mottled leaf species, they should never dry out completely. There is a summer monsoon in their native habitat that delivers copious amounts of rain. Of course, they require good drainage and do not want to sit in standing water. They will perform well for you if grown like the mottled leaf hybrids. We have care and feeding tips here.
