Description
Paphiopedilum gratrixianum is a medium sized, spring blooming species from Northern Vietnam. It is from relatively high elevations so the winter temperatures can drop into the low 40’s F. While it does not necessarily need a chill, giving it a cool, dry rest in winter can help initiate spiking on the spring.
Line breeding of this species has increased the color intensity and made it much easier to grow. We have been line breeding the Orchid Zone strain of this species for a couple generations now. We expect some exceptional flowers from this cross.
Paphiopedilum gratrixianum can be grown along with your complex Paph hybrids. Just follow our care tips here and you should be very successful. This plant can be grown outdoors in coastal California and other temperate regions.
