Description

Paphiopedilum philippinense is a spectacular species known for its long, graceful petals. It is native to the Philippines and a few neighboring islands. There are numerous varieties and closely aligned species such as Paphiopedilum roebbelinii, so it can be a little difficult to determine exactly which form you have. Some forms have smaller flowers on smaller plants, some are larger. This group of plants comes from a larger form.

This is a warm growing species. In its habitat the temperature seldom drops below the upper 60’s F. They will tolerate cooler winter temperatures in cultivation, but it is important to keep them drier when it is cold. We treat them just like all of our other multifloral Paphs, but we try to keep them a little closer to the heater in the winter. Seedling heat mats can be helpful with heat loving species such as this. Detailed growing tips are available here on our culture pages.
