Description

Paphiopedilum exul is a relatively rare species in the hobby. It can be slow growing from flask as it comes from very warm parts of Thailand. When grown cooler it takes longer to get to blooming size. It is known for its colorful, waxy flowers that appear in the winter through spring months.

In addition to being very warm, its habitat is subjected to seasonal rains. The summer months are very wet but the plants will not tolerate a potting mix that stays too wet. Be sure to provide good drainage. This species will bloom more reliably if given a slightly dry rest period in the winter.
