Description

Paphiopedilum druryi is a species native to the Indian subcontinent. It is quite possibly extinct in nature according to the Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia. Fortunately it is relatively easy to grow in cultivation. This species has glossy yellow flowers that are fairly long-lasting. It blooms in the late winter through spring. Some clones will produce more than one flower on the spike to extend the blooming season.

Small seedlings can be slow to get established but once the plants near blooming size they grow quickly. They often throw multiple leads, even after their first bloom. This means that they can form impressive specimen plants in a relatively short time.

This is a fairly undemanding species. Moderate light is sufficient and it is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures. Cooler conditions in the winter will help initiate flowering, and help the flowers last longer. We grow them along with our complex or bulldog hybrids with great success. Just check out our care and feeding page for more details on culture.
