Paphiopedilum daoense was originally described as a variety of Paphiopedilum gratrixianum. In the recent Orchid Digest review of Paphiopedilum, Harold Koopowitz separated it out as a species on its own. The color is certainly different, with fewer spots on the dorsal sepal. Some specimens have almost no spotting.
This species is quite vigorous and easy to grow. They will do well if given similar conditions to complex hybrids. They appreciate good quality water that is low in mineral salts. Just follow our tips here and you will have success.
